Poppy Playtime’s DogDay looks like he’d eat the PT dogs, Monty, Scrappy, Floyd, and Barney, for breakfast. This terrifying pooch looks to make his debut in Deep Sleep, the third chapter in Poppy Playtime, and while he seems ready to kill us, there might be more to him than meets the eye. Honestly, we’re kinda hoping an ear scratch or a good belly pat sorts out whatever bee is in his bonnet.
We all know that the main villain in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 is Poppy Playtime’s CatNap, so make sure you read his guide, where we dive into his personality, backstory, and role in the current story, just like we’re about to do with DogDay. However, don’t forget that these two are just part of a larger cast of Poppy Playtime characters, two of which, Poppy Playtime’s Huggy Wuggy and Poppy Playtime’s Mommy Long Legs, serve as the villains of Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 and Poppy Playtime Chapter 2, respectively.
Anyway, let’s take a look at Poppy Playtime’s DogDay.
Who is Poppy Playtime’s DogDay?
DogDay lives in Playcare and is the leader of the Smiling Critters, the same group to which CatNap belongs. However, he doesn’t share the same beliefs as CatNap, and it’s evident that neither do the rest of the Smiling Critters, as they’re long dead before we arrive at the orphanage.
At some point, DogDay clearly speaks out against Experiment 1006, or, at the very least, gives off the impression that he doesn’t agree with what Poppy Playtime’s Prototype has done. During the videotape showing The Hour of Joy, it doesn’t appear that DogDay took part in the massacre that killed, in the words of Poppy, “the guilty and the innocent.” Whereas, we can see that CatNap did, as does, presumably, the Prototype.
We know that Poppy disagrees with what happened, and given what DogDay says about helping Poppy set things right, it’s clear that he doesn’t either. What befalls DogDay is nothing short of a crying shame.
What is Poppy Playtime DogDay’s role in the story?
As Chapter 3 is still very new, consider this your spoiler warning.
DogDay doesn’t have a huge impact on what happens in Deep Sleep. You encounter him in the Playhouse, where the mini Poppy Playtime Smiling Critters appear to have been devouring him over time, no doubt thanks to his imprisonment at the hands (paws) of CatNap.
While here, he essentially gives us the rundown of what happened, helping us to piece together more of the overarching story. Clearly, some of the toys followed the Prototype into The Hour of Joy, and while what was happening at the factory was clearly cruel, many innocents lost their lives during the massacre. DogDay is meant to be a vibrant and happy toy, so the slaughter and ensuing events had a deep impact on him.
The last Smiling Critter besieges you to go and find Poppy. He wants you to end what’s happening. So you see, DogDay is one of the good guys, but that doesn’t mean he can’t kill you. The mini Smiling Critters crawl inside his body, eating and killing him, turning his corpse into their plaything, which they then use to chase you until you escape the Playhouse.
That’s the last you see of DogDay in the chapter. We won’t let you down, pooch.
Poppy Playtime DogDay’s personality
His Smiling Critter description states that DogDay is a sunny individual who always looks on the bright side of life, often encouraging those around him to do the same. He’s a loving pup who wants the best for his friends. It’s just a shame that CatNap subjects him to the heinous gas, which throws DogDay into a manic and deprived state until sleep takes over.
Right up until his scream for us to run, DogDay is clearly a brave pup, and he’s not afraid to speak up and try to do what’s right. Honestly, as harrowing as the scene with him is, it shows why he was the leader of the Smiling Critters. It’s a shame that CatNap chose to follow a sadistic experiment instead.
Poppy Playtime DogDay’s appearances
Chapter 3 is the first appearance of DogDay, and given what the mini Smiling Critters do to him, we’d wager that this is the last we’ll ever see of DogDay. Therefore, all we can do is forge forward into Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 and make sure that the Prototype and whichever toys are still helping him get what they deserve.
