Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel is being evaluated after suffering an upper-body injury late in Wednesday’s loss to the Florida Panthers, coach Mike Sullivan said.
Guentzel didn’t play in the second half of the third period.
Guentzel’s name has been bandied about in trade rumours as the struggling Penguins try to decide which way they’ll go at the March 8 deadline.
The American winger is a pending unrestricted free agent as his five-year, $30-million contract expires after this season.
A two-time all-star, Guentzel has 22 goals and 30 assists for 52 points in 50 games this season.
In his 502-game career, all with Pittsburgh, Guentzel has 219 goals and 247 assists for 466 points.
Guentzel helped the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in his rookie 2016-17 season.
The Penguins took Guentzel in the third round (77th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
