San Francisco 49ers rookie kicker Jake Moody set a Super Bowl record with a 55-yard field goal to open the scoring on Sunday early in the second quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Moody’s kick was one yard longer than Canadian Steve Christie’s successful attempt from 54 yards for the Buffalo Bills in a loss against the Dallas Cowboys in the Super Bowl at the conclusion of the 1993 season.
Moody was a third-round pick (99th overall) out of Michigan in the 2023 NFL Draft.
He made 21 of 25 field goals during the regular season, with his longest from 57 yards.
Christie, from Oakville, Ont., played for the Bills from 1992-2000. He played one game with the Toronto Argonauts in 2007 to finish his playing career.
