The New York Yankees made one of the best moves so far this offseason.
That was acquiring outfielder Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres.
He is one of the best players in the sport, and hitters like Soto are rarely available on the trade market.
But, the Padres knew they were not going to be able to re-sign Soto after the 2024 season.
So their best course of action was to trade him for a package of players.
Now Soto gets the chance to play the 2024 season for the most popular team in the sport.
One thing that makes Soto unique is his elite batting eye and ability to get on base.
According to Codify, Soto has the second-highest on-base percentage since 1960.
He trails only Barry Bonds with a career OBP of .421.

Frank Thomas, .419
Mickey Mantle, .418
Edgar Martínez, .418

No player in baseball is more patient at the plate than Soto.
He consistently works the count and makes life difficult on opposing pitchers.
Soto has played six seasons in MLB, and he has led the league in walks three times.
For his career, he has 640 walks to 577 strikeouts.
In a day and age where players are sacrificing plate discipline for home runs, Soto is the best of both worlds.
Playing in Yankee Stadium should set Soto up for the best power season of his career.
He set his career high in home runs last year with 35.
But, the Yankees’ ballpark is much more friendly to left-handed hitters.
Soto should once again be in the MVP conversation next year as he looks to lead the Yankees back to the playoffs.
