Compared to some of their most recent seasons, the 2023 campaign has been a bit of a struggle for All-Pro quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
During the regular season, the Chiefs finished with their fewest wins (11) since Mahomes took over as the team’s starting signal-caller in 2018.
Despite their “struggles,” Kansas City and their superstar quarterback were able to come away with a victory in their opening-round playoff matchup against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.
Following the Chiefs’ win, former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe went on the “Nightcap” show to talk about the greatness of Mahomes (via NIghtcap on Twitter).
“You don’t realize just how good this man is because we take him for granted. Only six years as a starter, this man has 12 career playoff wins.”

Sharpe is 100 percent correct with the fact that many have just become so accustomed to Mahomes leading Kansas City to playoff wins each season that his performances probably don’t get the proper amount of praise they deserve.
In the win over the Dolphins on Saturday, the Chiefs quarterback didn’t put up monumental numbers (262 passing yards and one touchdown), but he got the job done during critical moments of the contest.
Overall, during the 2023 season, Mahomes completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
After their win over Miami, Kansas City and their top signal-caller will now wait to see who they will face in the divisional round of the 2023 playoffs.
The result of Monday’s postseason matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers will determine who the Chiefs’ next playoff opponent will be.
