The Los Angeles Angels are looking for a manager after announcing Phil Nevin won’t return for the 2024 season.
The new manager may or may not have Shohei Ohtani on board, depending on the player’s decision in free agency.
Managing the Angels could be a challenge, but it’s definitely one that interests experienced baseball man Ron Washington.
According to reports, he is interviewing for the job.
“The Angels are interviewing Ron Washington for their manager position, per @SamBlum3,” Talkin’ Baseball tweeted.

Washington was a good player in the 70s and 80s, then acted as a coach with the Oakland Athletics from 1996 to 2006.
In 2007, he took the Texas Rangers and managed them until 2014.
He managed to take them to the World Series in 2010 and 2011, losing on both occasions.
Washington has been breathing baseball since his early years and to these days, virtually every day.
He worked with the A’s as a coach again in 2015-16 and then joined the Atlanta Braves in 2017.
He won a World Series with them as a third base coach in 2021.
With the majority of teams announcing their managers, the Angels are expected to reach a decision in the upcoming days.
Having a guy who has been through it all like Washington will definitely help.
Players trust and respect him and that is extremely important for a baseball team.
However, they also need more talent, a better farm and, above all things, time, especially if Ohtani doesn’t return.
Washington can be a good leader for the Angels at this stage, if he wins he job.
