The Texas Rangers were hoping to compete for a playoff berth this year.
They accomplished that by clinching the second Wild Card spot in the AL.
Yet, their regular season still feels like a disappointment to many.
That is because they should have won the AL West, if not for a late-season collapse.
Texas was leading the AL West for a large portion of the regular season.
Going into the last series with the Seattle Mariners, all the Rangers needed was two wins to clinch the division.
Yet, they were unable to do that.
According to FOX Sports: MLB, the Rangers led the AL West for 159 days this year.
While the Houston Astros only led it for 24 days.
But, Houston led the division on the days that counted which is why they are division champs.
The Rangers spent 159 days in first place and didn’t win the division…

Now, Texas has the tough task of facing the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round of the playoffs.
Tampa Bay had the second-best record in the AL this year but is a Wild Card team due to the Baltimore Orioles winning the AL East.
The Rangers were one win away from having a first-round bye, instead, they have to face one of the best teams in baseball.
Even though all Rangers fans should be happy their team is in the playoffs, with the way they have been trending, it does not seem like they will be playing for very long.
Looking at the big picture it has been a great season for the Rangers but a disappointing end to the regular season.
