NFL head coach Sean Payton is taking on a new challenge as the man at the helm of the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos are coming off a disastrous maiden voyage with future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Russell Wilson in which they won just five games and had one of the league’s worst offenses in recent memory.
Perhaps as inspiration, Drew Brees, Payton’s right-hand man for many years, showed up at Broncos practice on Tuesday, via Dov Kleiman.

Brees and Payton were a successful coach-quarterback duo, and together, they gave the New Orleans Saints some of the NFL’s most productive offenses throughout the 2000s and 2010s.
They reached their pinnacle during the 2009 season when they delivered the franchise its first Super Bowl championship by defeating Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.
Brees retired with 80,358 passing yards and 571 passing touchdowns, and he led the league in passing yards seven times and passing touchdowns four times.
He will surely be a first-ballot Hall of Famer as soon as he’s eligible to be inducted once the mandatory waiting period ends.
Payton is looking for Wilson to recapture some of the old glory he displayed on a regular basis when he was a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
Wilson turned in by far his worst season in 2022, and some are wondering if he is perhaps in decline due to wear and tear.
The Broncos haven’t made the playoffs since the 2015 season, when Manning led them to the world championship, and there is certainly lots of pressure on Wilson to play up to his old standards.
