On Friday morning, Bronny James declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, opening the door to play alongside his father, LeBron James, and enter the league in the fall.
But it’s not entirely clear what James’ chances are and according to NBA analyst and insider Chris Mannix, scouts throughout the league are “divided” on the USC freshman.
Mannix reports that James has “elite defensive tools” but added that he “lacks the size to defend bigger guards.”
He also said that James showed “flashes of being a strong playmaker but isn’t a traditional point guard.”
Mannix added: “[James] performed well given the near tragic cardiac incident he had last summer. James will go through the evaluation process before making a decision on the NBA draft.”

James is keeping his options open before the upcoming draft.
By submitting his name for eligibility, he will now be able to meet with NBA teams, work out for them, and decide if he wants to become a professional.
At the same time, he will also be in the NCAA transfer portal, meaning he could return to college if he wants to.
James has until June 16 to withdraw his name from consideration for the draft.
Last summer, James suffered cardiac arrest, a major health scare that delayed his freshman season and also impacted his performance.
He averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists over 19 minutes per game this season.
James has potential and obviously a very famous name, but that doesn’t guarantee he will earn a spot in the NBA next season.
In the weeks ahead, he will meet with various teams, show off his skills, and see if moving into the league makes sense.
It feels like this situation could go either way for James.
