The Jacksonville Jaguars have reportedly waived Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke on Monday, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

If Rourke clears waivers, he would be a free agent and could sign a practice squad contract with any team — including the Jaguars. This would allow him to continue his development with NFL coaches, but would prevent him from being designated as the emergency quarterback on game days without first being elevated to a 53-man roster.
Rourke showed he belongs in the NFL by completing 23 of 35 passes for 348 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the pre-season. In Saturday’s pre-season finale against the Miami Dolphins, Rourke entered the game in the third quarter and marched the Jaguars down the field for a 10-play, 88-yard touchdown drive.
“He’s done a great job. The guy works really hard,” starting quarterback Trevor Lawerence said of Rourke last week, according to USA Today. “He’s had some great plays and that’s what you got to do, the guy is looking to stick in the league and get a spot.”
