Former NBA head coach Stan Van Gundy caused quite a stir recently when he compared superstars Dwight Howard and Anthony Davis in terms of their careers and who, as of right now, has had the better career overall.
Van Gundy, who coached Howard with the Orlando Magic, sided with his former superstar center, and he didn’t think it was much of an argument.
Obviously, that made it a hot topic as it is an argument that can go in many different ways with advantages for both players when compared side by side.
Interestingly enough, former Los Angeles Lakers star Robert Horry chimed in on the topic on his Big Shot Bob podcast, as even he believes Howard gets the edge over Davis.
When it comes down to talent, there doesn’t seem to be much of an argument here as Davis is easily the more talented player due to being able to be dominant on both sides of the floor, which is something Howard always struggled with.
However, Horry and his guests come up with some good points, as Davis is rarely available throughout an entire season, while Howard was always available during his prime with the Magic.
Also, Horry says it can simply come down to Howard winning three NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards while Davis still sits at zero, even though he’s always in the conversation for the regular-season award.
If Davis’ career ended tomorrow, Howard would have the edge as the resume speaks for itself, but the Lakers superstar still has some time to make things interesting if he can stay healthy for the rest of his career in the NBA.
