Having been datamined very early in the game’s lifespan (wow, 2020 feels like a century ago now, right?) Genshin’s Yaoyao has taken up residence in the back of our minds, just waiting to hop out and steal our primos. The cute, playful little girl has been mentioned a lot through our Liyuan travels, but it looks like the Genshin Impact Yaoyao release date is approaching along with the Lantern Rite Festival of 2023.
If you want to keep on top of which characters are the best, check out our Genshin Impact tier list and Genshin Impact next banner guide. You can also kit them out using our Genshin Impact artifacts and Genshin Impact weapons guides.
Genshin Impact Yaoyao
Who is Genshin Impact’s Yaoyao?
Yaoyao dates back to one of the earliest Genshin Impact leaks, and the first closed beta datamine. All of the other characters found in the datamine, including Genshin Impact’s Kokomi, Genshin Impact’s Kazuha, Genshin Impact’s Hu Tao, and more, have since been released, but Yaoyao is the last one to hop out into the world of Genshin Impact.
This is likely due to the fact that Yaoyao is a dendro character, and therefore had to be held back to line up with version 3. But now, as we approach the Lantern Rite Festival, it looks like this little Liyuean gal is finally joining the roster.
Yaoyao was Genshin Impact Xiangling‘s junior disciple, and they trained under the same martial arts master. She’s since become an assistant for Genshin Impact’s Ganyu, and is rarely found far from Madame Ping, who essentially treats her as a grandchild.
When is Genshin Yaoyao’s release date?
Due to drip marketing and recent Genshin Impact leaks, we believe that Yaoyao will be available in the first phase of version 3.4. We’ll know for sure after the next livestream, so be sure to keep an eye on our Genshin Impact update and Genshin Impact banner guides.
What’s the best Genshin Yaoyao build?
From what we’ve seen through Hoyoverse’s drip marketing and multiple leaks, it looks like Yaoyao is a four-star dendro polearm wielder best suited to a support role. She can heal allies through both her skill and burst, while also applying AoE dendro damage, making her a great utility candidate for elemental reaction teams.
We’ll be sure to update this section as soon as we get more information.
What’s are the best Genshin Yaoyao weapons and artifacts?
Until she arrives in the game, we’re not too sure about what the best Genshin Yaoyao weapon and artifact sets are. However, when looking at her skills from the beta, we believe she will be quite energy hungry, and will require plenty of HP if you intend to use her as a healer.
As such, we believe Favonius Lance will be a great, affordable choice for her weapon. We also guess that she’ll likely perform best with a combination of two Tenacity of Milelith and two healing artifacts, a full set of Emblem of Severed Fate, or a full set of Gilded Dreams. However, that’s just some surface-level theorycrafting – we’ll be sure to update this section when we find out more.
What are Genshin Yaoyao’s skills?
Below, we’ve listed all of Yaoyao’s skills as of the beta, with information taken from Honey Hunter World. Keep in mind that her skills haven’t been confirmed by Hoyoverse yet, and are subject to change come her full release.

Yaoyao elemental skill
Skill | Effect |
Raphanus Sky Cluster | Call upon Yuegui: Throwing Mode, a special device created by a certain adeptus to help Yaoyao solve her problems. Hold the skill button to enter aiming mode and adjust the throw direction. When deployed, Yuegui: Throwing Mode tosses radishes that explode upon hitting characters or opponents, dealing dendro damage to opponents within a certain AoE, and yealing characters within that same AoE based on Yaoyao’s max HP. If the radish doesn’t hit either an opponent or a character, the radish remains where it is and explodes on contact with a character or opponent, or explodes after its duration expires. Yuegui: Throwing Mode chooses its radish-throw targets based on these parameters: – if all nearby allies have more than 70% HP remaining, then it throws the radish at a nearby opponent – if nearby characters have 70% or less HP remaining, it throws the radish at the character with the lowest HP percentage remaining. If no opponents exist nearby, Yuedui throws White Jade Radishes at characters even if they all have more than 70% HP remaining A maximum of two instances of Yuegui: Throwing Mode can exist at any one time. |
Yaoyao elemental burst
Skill | Effect |
Moonjade Descent | Call upon Yuegui: Throwing Mode, a special device created by a certain adeptus to help Yaoyao solve her problems. If a radish doesn’t hit either an opponent or a character, it remains where it is and explodes on contact with a character or opponent, or explodes after its duration expires. Yuegui: Throwing Mode chooses its radish-throw targets based on these parameters: – if all nearby characters have more than 70% HP remaining, it throws the radish at a nearby opponent – if nearby characters have 70% or less HP remaining, it throws a radish at the character with the lowest HP percentage remaining. If no opponents exist nearby, Yuegui throws radishes at characters if they have more than 70% HP and less than 100% HP remaining. Otherwise, it throws radishes into the area at random A maximum of two instances of Yuegui: Throwing Mode can exist at any one time. |
