The 1.19 Wild update in Minecraft came with a lot of new stuff such as Wardens, Frogs, and a lot more. A new status effect was also released, called the darkness effect. Here’s our Minecraft 1.19 to tell you everything you need to know about the darkness effect.
Darkness effect in Minecraft 1.19
If the Deep Dark wasn’t dark enough for you, there is now a new status called the Darkness effect that blinds you even further. It is not exactly blindness but comes very close. It narrows your field of vision and everything outside it becomes part of a never-ending void.
This happens when a sculk shrieker activates when you reach its radius or if you are detected by the warden. This is highly inconvenient, as players looking to kill the Warden or trap it are unable to do anything. The fact that the Warden can kill you in two strikes doesn’t help with anything.
Best ways to deal with the Darkness effect in Minecraft 1.19
There are a few ways through which you can get some help against the darkness effect in Minecraft 1.19 and here are the best ones:
1. Using Torches
Using torches is by far the cheapest way to deal with the darkness. Just place torches wherever you go, at regular distances and you should be fairly good to go. The darkness effect does not apply to light sources and you can still see them from far away. Ensure you are sneaking when you are in the vicinity of sculk sensors. If you see the Warden nearby though, do not place the torches as they can sense you if you make sounds.
2. Potions of night vision
Though the torch method was cheap, it gets extremely tedious to place torches in a large area. Players can instead use potions of night vision to counter the darkness effect. Though it does not get rid of the darkness completely, it grants you a slightly better field of vision (just enough to see surrounding blocks). Always carry multiple potions of night vision when you are exploring the Deep Dark.
3. Destroy sculk sensors before they activate
As they say, prevention is better than cure, so is the case here. You can choose to carefully break the sculk shrieker blocks before they activate. Remember to always sneak around when you are in the Deep Dark and then break any shrieker blocks you come across with a hoe. The sensors can detect movement in a radius of 9 around it, so be careful when dealing with it.
4. Turning the darkness feature off from settings
The darkness effect is special in the sense that it comes in the form of pulses. That means, that once players are inflicted with this status effect, the darkness effect will come in pulses at regular intervals. There may come times when the screen goes pitch black for a few seconds. This gets annoying and makes it impossible to even play the game as you are effectively playing on a turned-off screen.
This feature was added to help players with visual impairments. However, there is no stop from you using this. Feel free to turn the slider as low as you want or even turn it off. This will tone down the intensity of the game by a significant amount.
5. Increase screen brightness
Increasing screen brightness works as well against the darkness status effect. You can do this by going to the pause menu and clicking on Options. Choose Video Settings and adjust the brightness slider to set it to maximum (to the right). For extra brightness, you can turn up your screen’s brightness too.
